Oak Clinic for
Multiple Sclerosis continues to make its Managing Depression
Study/Support Group available at no-cost to persons living
with MS. This group provides various educational tools that
help prevent and/or manage depression. The group’s
facilitator is Stacy Simera, MSSA, LISW, a local therapist
in private practice at Gary Robinson and Associates, in
Kent. Simera is also an adjunct instructor at Stark State.
Chronic illness may cause vulnerability to depression.
Depression
symptoms include feeling down or blue more often than not,
decreased interest in things that normally please you,
changes in sleep, changes in appetite, decreased motivation,
decreased energy, feelings of guilt, indecisiveness,
feelings of hopelessness, and low self-worth.
The Managing
Depression Study/Support Group focuses on various ways to
prevent and/or manage depression. Topics vary from session
to session, and are often chosen to meet the needs of those
attending. The group often discusses

participating in the Managing Depression Study/Support Group
develops a Wellness Recovery Action Plan, as well as a copy
of The Depression Workbook, purchased in part, with
first-ever grant support from Northern Ohio Golf Charities.
MS patients
looking to change their thinking styles will find this group
helps them improve their motivation and better develop their
own levels of assertiveness.
